SACSCOC accreditation reaffirmation to begin in ’21

As a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the University must complete the Reaffirmation of Accreditation process every ten years to ensure compliance with SACSCOC policies and standards. According to its website, SACSCOC is the “recognized regional accrediting body in 11 Southern states for those higher education institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.”

The mission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is to assure the educational quality and improve the effectiveness of its member institutions. Accreditation is voluntary, but it plays a significant role in public perception of and confidence in the University, its academic degrees and programming, and reputation.

The official data collection and reporting year for UNC Charlotte will be in fall 2021 and spring 2022. While much of the outstanding work to prepare is conducted by the Office of University Accreditation and Institutional Research in Academic Affairs, it is helpful for all University faculty and staff to be aware and available to assist, if needed. For example, a roster of all faculty and the courses they teach is produced as part of the self-assessment process, and much of that information comes from Banner.

While 2021-2022 may seem like a long time away, the sooner we begin to prepare, test our data, and support the key initiatives that have made our last several rounds of reaffirmation so successful, the better.
