As universities across the country focus on contingency plans during COVID-19, hackers are busy working to find ways to exploit the higher education community. Continue to be vigilant on the lookout for phishing and spam.

How Should I Be On The Lookout?

Any email that looks similar to a real UNC Charlotte employee, BUT comes from an external email domain (e.g., @yahoo.com, @gmail.com, etc.).

FAKE HINT: Email has real UNC Charlotte staff name BUT ends in @gmail.com

John.Smith.uncc.edu@gmail.com

FAKE uncc.edu in the username BUT ends in @gmail.com

John.Smith@uncc.edu

REAL HINT: Email has real UNC Charlotte staff name AND ends in @uncc.edu

How Do I Report Phishing or SPAM?

If you receive an email claiming to be from a UNC Charlotte employee and the sender’s email address does not end with @uncc.edu, Do Not Respond, report it as phishing and delete it. You can report these to ReportSpam-group@uncc.edu or Help.uncc.edu. If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at 704-687-5500.
