Adobe Flash to be uninstalled from University devices, servers

Categories: News, OneIT

Until recently, almost every webpage was built using Adobe Flash Player for games, video,—even entire sites. But by the end of this year, Adobe will neither support nor secure Flash-based apps. On Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, OneIT will uninstall Adobe Flash Player from University devices and servers to maintain best security practices.

Adobe Flash will reach end-of-life on Dec. 31, 2020. The multimedia software platform launched in 2006 and wasn’t built for the modern internet. For example, Flash drains too much power to be used on mobile devices. Today, most interactive content is rendered using HTML5 or another solution. The Chrome web browser already blocks Flash by default, and Flash support will not be included when Firefox releases its newest version next month. Adobe itself will block Flash content beginning on Jan. 12, 2021, to help secure users’ systems.
